Cedar River Fall 2002

Every once in a while, between hauling in large fish, this is what I saw Brian was up to: seemingly fishing, but not actually catching anything. This might be a good time to acknowledge that Brian did come close to hauling in the largest fish I've ever seen. On Saturday night, after I caught my 29" pike, Brian reeled in a pike that would have eaten mine. He faught it long enough to get it next to us, and Brad "expertly" attempted to net the thing twice with the tiny net we had, but the net either just covered the tail or the head depending on what direction the netting was attempted from, and came nowhere close to actually netting the fish itself. After the failed attempts at netting, the whale eventually broke the line and took Brian's lure with it. We all did get some excellent looks at it since it was laying in the water like an alligator right next to the three of us while Brad was trying to figure out how to capture the beast. I give a conservative estimate that it was 40". Brad estimated 40-42". If anything, it was longer than those estimates. Brian will now spend the rest of his life trying to catch that fish again.
